Caronet Data Center Completes SSAE 16 (SOC ) Type I Audit

Charlotte, NC, Feb 22nd, 2013 – Caronet, a full-service colocation provider with global reach, has successfully completed a voluntary audit that illustrates the company’s ongoing commitment to creating and maintaining the most stringent security controls. Caronet’s Data Center Colocation solution earned the distinction after demonstrating compliance with the standards set forth by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Specifically, Caronet completed the Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagement No. 16 (SSAE 16 or SOC 1) Type I audit. The SSAE 16 effectively replaced the SAS 70. The new SSAE 16 standard comes with additional requirements for service organizations that go above and beyond the SAS 70.

The SSAE 16 audit included a detailed review of Caronet’s data security controls and processes. It was performed by an independent licensed Certified Public Accounting firm that specializes in conducting SSAE 16 audits. The auditor examined Caronet’s controls related to the company’s physical and environmental security. Upon completion of the audit, the Service Auditors’ Report showed a clean opinion -without exception- that Caronet’s policies, procedures and infrastructure for data protection, security and confidentiality met or exceeded the stringent SSAE 16 criteria.

“We believe that Caronet’s continued successful completion of these voluntary service auditor’s reports underscores our commitment to the vital protection of our customers’ data,” says Morgan Miskell, CTO for Caronet. “It’s all part of our dedication to providing the most secure and reliable data center solutions.”

SSAE 16 audits have become increasingly important for data-handling service providers since the passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley legislation, which requires a company’s business partners to have adequate internal controls. Caronet’s customers can easily incorporate its Service Auditors’ Report in their Sarbanes-Oxley compliance programs as proof that appropriate controls are in place. The SSAE 16 audit can also help Caronet’s customers to comply with other regulations, including HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), GLBA (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999) and ISO 27001.
